Whenever there is a rising debate around ethics, lived experience and practice, we believe it is imperative to separate misapplied or outdated interpretations of PBS from the compassionate, evidence-based, human-rights approach that many providers uphold.
We welcome these conversations as they reflect the voices of people who have not always been heard and challenge us all to do better.
What We Stand For
At Catalyst Care Group (CCG), we are committed to ensuring that Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) is truly person-centred, always placing the needs, preferences and aspirations of the individual at the heart of everything we do. We consistently seek the least restrictive options, ensuring that people have choice and control in their lives while supporting them to live well and safely. PBS at CCG is not just a role but a culture, and we are working to upskill everyone across the organisation so that all staff are equipped to put the person’s needs first in every interaction.
All our internal practitioners are well-qualified to degree or master’s level, ensuring a high standard of practice grounded in evidence and values. All practitioners have access to external supervision, which supports ethical, values-led dissemination of PBS across the system and ensures that practice remains reflective, person-centred and free from closed cultures.
Final Thoughts
We take seriously the concerns raised by those who have experienced harm under behaviourist models. PBS must never:
- Be imposed without consent
- Be reduced to “behaviour control”
- Ignore identity, autonomy, or trauma history
These concerns are valid and push us to remain vigilant, humble, and committed to reflective practice. But we also urge caution against broad generalisations that may unintentionally silence or discredit PBS professionals who work daily to protect rights, reduce restrictions, and improve lives.
Our commitment is clear: to deliver PBS that respects people’s human rights, protects dignity, and places each person’s needs, choices and aspirations at the centre of every decision.
