In my role as a Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) practitioner, I focus on understanding the function behind behaviours of concern and improving each person’s quality of life through person‑centred support. I carry out functional behaviour assessments and risk assessments to explore triggers, unmet needs, and environmental factors. Using evidence‑based and trauma‑informed approaches, I design personalised plans that prioritise dignity, emotional safety, and autonomy. My aim is to try and reduce distress, build meaningful skills, and create environments where people feel understood and valued.
In my role, I also work closely with families, carers, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure everyone feels confident and supported in applying PBS strategies. I provide guidance, and consistency across settings, helping teams manage complex behaviours with compassion and clarity. Ultimately, what drives me is empowering people to experience connection, choice, independence, and a better quality of life.
What inspires me in PBS is the ability to turn challenges into meaningful growth. I’m passionate about using evidence‑based, compassionate approaches to help people feel safe, valued, and understood. Seeing individuals gain confidence, connection, and new opportunities is the motivation that keeps me committed to this work.
